Prior to z/VM V4, end-of-service dates were announced
separately (and much later) and not at the time of product announce.
Beginning with z/VM V4 (an IPLA product),
the end-of-service date is
announced with the product announcement. This is why
you may see new releases in the list along with their end-of-service
dates.

IBM International Program License Agreement Software Support Lifecycle policy - coordinated, simplified

On August 12, 2003, IBM announced a new software support lifecycle for products
licensed under the IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA). Basically, it
entitles customers who have a current Subscription
and Support (S&S) licenses for a specific release to receive at least three
years of product technical support, starting at the planned availability date
of a given release. This policy will be adopted for customers with z/VM Version
4.3 and later and will be effective for the listed releases and applicable IPLA
priced, optional features for those releases:
z/VM V4 Software Support Lifecycle Extensions extend the End of Service Date
for z/VM V4.4 to 09/30/06
