5A5 An Overview of the CICS TS Gateway & CICS Universal Client

Abstract:

This presentation provides an overview of the CICS Transaction Gateway and CICS Universal Clients. CICS Clients provide a way of attaching the most popular workstations to your CICS servers running on OS/390, MVS/ESA, VSE/ESA, OS/400, or OS/2 and your TXSeries servers running on AIX, Windows NT, Solaris, or HP-UX. The CICS Clients provide application programming interfaces (APIs) for CICS client applications written in C, C++, Visual Basic, COBOL, PL/I, and REXX and are supported by numerous application development tools including IBM VisualAge family.

Combining the capabilities of the popular CICS Gateway for Java with an integrated CICS Universal Client, the CICS Transaction Gateway enables state-of-the-art access to CICS from the worlds of Java and HTML. Now you can write your own CICS-enabled Java applets to run inside your Web browser or or Network Computer; or CICS-enabled Java Applications to install on all the machines in your heterogeneous network; or CICS-enabled Java Servlets to expand your Web servers. Also you can use the CICS Transaction Gateway's own Servlets to drive 3270-transactions easily via HTML, with advanced template and scripting features.
