5A2 TCP/IP Socket Programming
Abstract:
The session targets the application programmer who is interested to develop or port TCP/IP socket applications in/to a VSE/ESA environment. The session provides a comprehensive overview about TCP/IP based peer-to-peer application programming in a heterogenous network environment by using LE/VSE socket services. It will be explained how to write portable LE/VSE COBOL, PL/I, C and HLASM based applications using the interlanguage communication facilities of LE/VSE. In general the session intends will help answering the following questions:
- what is a socket program ?
- what socket interfaces are available on VSE ?
- how do write portable socket applications ?
- how does the TCP/IP for VSE/ESA provided APIs differentiate from the LE/VSE interfaces ?
- which LE/VSE supported language to use and how ?
- C
- HLASM
- COBOL
- PL/I
