VM Guest LAN Support

Introduction

The Virtual Machine (VM) Control Program (CP) allows you to create and simulate a LAN formed by virtual Network Interface Cards (NIC). You can define a LAN or a VSWITCH to represent the network. You can define a virtual NIC to represent an adapter in a guest I/O configuration. You can couple a virtual NIC to a VM LAN or VSWITCH to make it part of a network.

z/VM 4.2.0 introduced Guest LAN support simulating the HiperSockets model.

z/VM 4.3.0 introduced Guest LAN support for the QDIO model simulating the OSA Express in QDIO mode. Type QDIO supports unicast, multicast, and broadcast. Type HiperSockets supports unicast and multicast in this release.

z/VM 4.4.0 introduced VSWITCH support and IEEE VLAN capabilities.
