z/VM Version 4, Release 2.0 -
NFS Client Improvements
One improvement this release is the addition of the
LOCALPORT option.
This allows the user to
identify the local reserved (well-known) port number CMS should use if
reserved ports are required by the remote NFS server.
For example, by default,
some NFS server implementations on LINUX require that the client use
reserved ports.
z/VM Version 3, Release 1.0 -
NFS Client Added!
Would you like to use XEDIT instead of VI to edit LINUX
files? Would you like to use CMS Pipelines to process OS/390 data
sets? Would it be useful to have multiple writers sharing a CMS
minidisk? Do you have a VM tool that you'd
love to use on other files that reside on another platform?
All of this is possible with z/VM's new NFS client support.
The OPENVM MOUNT
command allows you to make a remote file system
part of the Byte File System (BFS) directory structure in your
CMS virtual machine.
(See the z/VM OpenExtensions™ Command Reference for a description of
the OPENVM MOUNT command.)
What can you do with it once it is mounted?
- Use
XEDIT with the
(NAMETYPE BFS
option to
edit remote files using the tool we know and love.
- Use OPENVM GETBFS and
OPENVM PUTBFS CMS commands to
copy files to or from the remote file system.
- Add a front-end
to an existing CMS EXEC so that
a CMS Pipelines BFS
stage reads the input file from a remote file system.
- NFS Mount a CMS minidisk so you have read/write access
from multiple CMS users.
(Warning!
This provides an update-in-place type sharing capability.)
- Use files in remote file systems
in OpenExtensions Shell commands.
The Shell and Utilities was a priced, optional
feature of VM/ESA was integrated into the CMS component of z/VM
Version 3 Release 1, renamed to OpenExtensions Shell and
Utilities and was made available at no extra charge.
