z/VM and Linux on System z under z/VM using DCSSs
Sharing and Maintaining SLES 11 SP1 Linux under z/VM using FBA disks DCSSs and an NSSThis paper describes how to install and configure SLES 11 SP1 Linux under z/VM using Dis-contiguous Saved Segments (DCSSs) and a Named Saved System (NSS) with the Linux XIP file system option along with the concept of a read-only root file system. It uses FBA disks rather than ECKD disks as with the March 2010 paper below.

Linux on IBM System z: Large Discontiguous Saved Segments (DCSS) Under Linux
This document provides results for tests run using large Discontiguous Saved Segments under Linux®. A DCSS is a z/VM technology used to share memory between a number of guests. This paper focuses on three areas of application for a large DCSS: sharing code, sharing readonly data, and using a DCSS as a swap device.

Sharing and Maintaining SLES 11 Linux under z/VM using DCSSs and an NSS
This paper describes how to install and configure SLES 11 Linux under z/VM using Dis-contiguous Saved Segments (DCSSs) and a Named Saved System (NSS) with the Linux XIP file system option along with the concept of a read-only root file system. Such an environment offers the possibility of better performance, improved security, and easier maintenance of Linux on System z.
