Service and feature packs released for other z/VM 7.4 components


z/VM 7.4 introduced linear service to the product. Service fix packs and feature packs are now released on a regular cadence. By installing the latest pack you will receive all service fixes and features for the component. Refer to the change log table below for a comprehensive list of changes to the component since the z/VM 7.4 General Availability date.

The following z/VM components: APPC/VM, GCS, Rexx/VM, RSCS, TSAF do not have any linear service fix or feature packs at this time. If there is linear service for one of these components they will have a separate table below.

  • Linear Service Environment Variables
    Establish z/VM environment variables to provide the ability to easily determine the latest service installed on a z/VM 7.4 system from CP, CMS or a Linux guest. These environment variables will be set correctly for any service that is applied after this PTF has been put into production. The SERVICE STATUS command has the new LEVels operand added to display relevant service levels. A web page has been created to display the environment variables.

  • Provide VMSES/E updates to accommodate reporting of service identifier (LVL-ffxx). This identifier format, introduced with the z/VM 7.4 linear service strategy, needs to be correctly reported by the SERVICE STATUS command with successive PTF updates for a given z/VM 740 component.
