   About TCP/IP

TCP/IP stands for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol and is the backbone that provides connectivity between a varied array of hardware and software platforms. TCP/IP has become the standard for connecting systems together internally (intranet) and externally (internet). Defined within TCP/IP are a wide range of communication and interface protocols that provide services like mail transport (SMTP- Simple Mail Transfer Protocol ) and file transport (FTP- File Transfer Protocol ), plus many others.
