Component Name TCP/IP V2 FOR V Special Notice Current Target Date .. Flags SCP ................... Platform ............ Status Detail: APARCLOSURE - APAR is being closed. PE PTF List: PTF List: Release 310 : No PTF planned Parent APAR: Child APAR list: ERROR DESCRIPTION: VM TCPIP R310 no longer ships the security exits FTPDEXIT and FTPDRACF execs that the user could modify. User is migrating to VM TCPIP R310 from R240 and has an ESM installed. He needs to be able to decide which user's can and cannot link to disks but without the security exits that capability is lost. In this user's environment he has an ESM but not all resources are ESM protected. If a LINK is done by FTPSERVE for one of the disks not ESM protected FTPSEREVE goes into CPREAD because CP needs the LINK password to continue. There is no way to by-pass this problem on VM TCPIP R310. LOCAL FIX: PROBLEM SUMMARY: **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of the VM FTP server using an * * external security manager. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The removal of FTPDRACF EXEC was done to coincide with the integration of more robust security management in the FTP server itself. The ways FTPDRACF was being used by our customers were not fully appreciated. There is no intention of returning to the use of something similar to FTPDRACF. The direction is to more fully implement security management inside the FTP server, continuing to upgrade it as we find deficiencies. PROBLEM CONCLUSION: TEMPORARY FIX: COMMENTS: This APAR is being closed FIN (Fixed If Next). This closing code indicates that the problem will be resolved if there is a next release of VM TCP/IP after the reported release. This closing code has been agreed upon by the APAR submittor.
