LOCAL FIX: N/A PROBLEM SUMMARY: **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All Users of z/VM MPRoute server. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY PTF * **************************************************************** The z/VM 6.4.0 MPRoute server intermittantly has adjacency failures, loses connectivity, and never recovers. PROBLEM CONCLUSION: TEMPORARY FIX: COMMENTS: The Multiple Protocol Routing (MPRoute) server has been enhanced and upgraded from z/OS level 2.2 to z/OS level 2.4. In addition, support has been added to TCP/IP to monitor the responsiveness of the MPRoute server, and terminate the MPRoute server if it becomes unresponsive. TCP/IP Messages and Codes SRL GC24-6237-11 GC24-6330-01 The following messages have been added to Chapter 16, "TCP/IP Server Messages",on page 481 DTCPDO509I DTCPDO510I DTCPDO509I TCP/IP determined that MPRoute was not responsive for at least <maxinterval> seconds. DTCPDO510I KillClient: Client <ServerID> Explanation: TCP/IP has determined that the MPRoute server <ServerID> has been unresponsive for <maxinterval> seconds. System action: The MPRoute server is terminated. If the MPRoute server has been specified on the AUTOLOG statement, TCP/IP will attempt to restart the MPRoute server. Otherwise, restart the MPRoute server. System programmer response: If an abend occurred, collect a dump of MPROUTE and contact the IBM Software Support Center. For additional information, including instructions on gathering documentation, see diagnosing MPROUTE problems in "z/VM: TCP/IP Diagnosis Guide". z/VM: TCP/IP Planning and Customization SRLs SC24-6238-11 SC24-6331-02 In Chapter 8, 'Configuring the MPRoute Server', section 'Understanding MPRoute' - In the section following 'MPRoute has the following characteristics: ', add this bullet to the end of the list. * TCP/IP will monitor the responsiveness of MPRoute and will terminate the MPRoute server if it becomes unresponsive. The server will be restarted if it is in the AUTOLOG list. In Chapter 8, 'Configuring the MPRoute Server', section 'Configuration Steps for the MPRoute Server', 'Step 1. Update the TCP/IP server configuration file : Autolog Considerations for MPROUTE' Change the note at the end of Autolog Considerations for MPROUTE to: Note: When using only the OSPF protocol, the autostart feature of AUTOLOG can be used as described above. TCP/IP will monitor the responsiveness of MPRoute and will terminate the MPRoute server if it becomes unresponsive. MPRoute will be restarted if it is in the AUTOLOG list.
