                                                define multiple discontiguous

                                                the sum of the sizes in bytes
                                                of all of the individual
                                                extents (minus one). The minus
                                                one notation is used so that a
                                                total size of 16 Exabytes may
                                                be represented without
                                                ambiguity (as
                                                x'FFFFFFFF_FFFFFFFF').
