About Endicott and Vicinity
Briefly, here are a few tidbits about Endicott and vicinity.
More as time allows.
- Endicott is the
original home of IBM---that's a
link showing the "clock tower" building that you can
see on North Street.
- Endicott, NY is part of greater
Broome County (BC).
-
Our area was blessed to have Endicott-native cartoonist, Johnny
Hart, who drew the comic strip B.C. and Wizard of ID.
He donated his B.C. character to many Broome County events,
including the former B.C. Open, which was a
PGA Tour (ending in 2006) and
played at
En-Joie Municipal Golf Course, Endicott, NY.
Endicott is now a stop on the PGA Champions Tour with the
Dick's Sporting Goods Open
whicn was held July 2-7, 2008.
It's nice to have a big-time event in a small town. You can
get up close and there's lots of local support.
I purchase a small sponsorshop and there are many others
(local VMers) who volunteer
in various capacities for the tournament
(the event benefits local charities.)
Here I am having a bit of fun in an advertiser tent in 2000.
- What's a spiedie? You'll have to visit Endicott
to try this local Italian delicacy of marinated cubes of meat
grilled and served on a slice of Italian bread.
Time your visit just right and hit one of the annual events --
St. Anthony
Italian Feast Days (mid June)
or the
Spiedie Fest and (hot air) Balloon rally (1st weekend of August).
-
Broome County is the carousel capital of the world. Within the
county there are six Herschel carousels donated to the
the community by the Johnson Family (Endicott-Johnson) with the
intention that they shall always be free to riders
