Mark Johnson's Personal Info
Life before IBM:
- Sept 1974 to July 1979:
I worked for the Board of Cooperative Educational Services in
Fredonia, NY in Television services.
I was responsible for the repair and maintenance of televisions,
VCRs, a 10-site television translator system, a video tape duplication
center, and mobile television production van.
- Aug 1973 to July 1974:
Attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma
to study
avionics (aviation electronics).
- Before all of the above:
I grew up in Gerry, NY, a small town six miles North of
Jamestown, NY.
There was a general store, hardware store, diner, a post office, and
one flashing red light at the main intersection.
We lived next door to the grade school that I attended (more than
once my teacher had to let me go round up some of my chickens that had
decided to stroll outside their fence).
Gerry was named after Elbridge Gerry, one of the signers of the
Declaration of Independence, and is pronounced with a hard "G", just
like Gary, IN.
Perhaps the more known claim to fame of Gerry is that it hosts the
longest running rodeo East of the Mississippi.
For five days each year, the volunteer firemen (and practically the
rest of the town) work at the rodeo grounds serving "authentic"
barbeque beef dinners (they even have a "secret" recipe barbeque sauce
that is prepared right there), selling tickets, running concessions,
directing traffic, etc.
Of course, the show itself, is put on by a professional rodeo company,
with steer wrestling, calf roping, bare-back bronc riding, bull riding,
and other rodeo events.
